I use manual focus AI-S Nikkor lenses vía adapters on Canon bodies with some regularity, but focus using the Live View with either the camera's built n monitor or by using CanmRanger and an iPad. Can anyone explain me exactly how the focusing works when an adapter is used? Ever since that experience, I don’t believe in lens adapter anymore. The problem might have been in the lens adapter. In my opinion, it should affect the focus plane. But when there is a lens adapter, it changes the distance from the lens to the image sensor. But what happens when there is a 5mm thick lens adapter between the lens and camera? Doesn’t it change the plane of focus? The lens has a specific plane of focus set from factory. Now I wonder, on these combinations of three different parts, what decides when it is in focus? Is it the lens or the camera that knows when the object is in focus? Or is it both?
